Did you know that you can turn canned biscuits into Doughnuts?!

This is something I have wanted to make for awhile, considering how EASY they are (I’m ALL ABOUT EASY Recipes) 😉

I will start off by apologizing for what I am about to encourage you to make, but these are just sinfully delicious!

With these below, I did a Cinnamon Sugar coating, but in this post I am ALSO including options for an Original Glaze, Chocolate Glaze or the Cinnamon Sugar!

If someone would have told me these where OUT OF THIS WORLD GOOD, I would have made them much sooner.

They are seriously Melt-in-your-mouth fantastic.

You can use a cookie cutter to make the holes in the centers of each, or any circular object, even a bottle cap for the smaller canned biscuits would work!

You will need to fill your frying pan up 1/2 an inch or so with Vegetable oil until it reaches 350F.

If you don’t have aCooking Thermometer, you can test out if the oil is hot enough by just dropping in one of the small biscuit centers you cut out.

I always recommend only doing 1 -2 donuts at a time, because they do tend to cook VERY quickly.

I did also use the the cut out biscuit centers too, they were also amazing.

They cook extremely fast being so small, so fry only a couple at a time as well, when doing those!

So easyfresh, hot donuts without much effort at all!

These donuts would be so fun for a weekend breakfast or even a quick dessert! 🙂

Easy Canned Biscuit Donuts!

Ingredients

  • 1 Canned biscuits no flaky layers
  • 1/2 cup or so of Vegetable oil enough for frying
  • 2 Teaspoon Cinnamon- per 8 doughnuts
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1 stick of butter melted

Optional Glaze Ingredients : if you don't like Cinnamon Sugar or if you just want a variety

    For Original Glaze

    • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
    • 2 to 3 teaspoons milk

    For Chocolate Glaze

    • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
    • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa
    • 1 tablespoon margarine or butter melted
    • 2 to 3 teaspoons milk

    Instructions

    • Take your canned biscuits and cut out the centers of each biscuit using a cookie cutter or small biscuit cutter, even a bottle cap works, Set aside.

    • Melt your butter in a shallow bowl that is large enough to dip a doughnut into, set aside.

    • In another shallow bowl, mix in the cinnamon & sugar, set aside.

    • In a medium frying pan, fill with the vegetable oil, only about half an inch or so

    • Heat the oil to 350F, if you don't have a cooking thermometer, use one little biscuit center and drop it into the pan, making sure it sizzles when it hits the oil.

    • Once the oil is ready drop 1-2 doughnuts at a time into the oil, because they cook quickly

    • When one side is golden brown, flip it over with tongs and when that side is golden remove from oil and place on a paper towel lined pan or plate.

If you are doing the Cinnamon Sugar Coating

    • When the doughnuts have cooled off enough to handle, use your fingers dip one side in the melted butter, allowing the excess drip off, then dip in cinnamon and sugar mixture.

    • Flip over and repeat for the other side.

If you Chose another Glazed Option

    • For each of the other Glaze options, in small shallow bowls combine ingredients until smooth, adding enough liquid for desired glaze consistency.

    • Dip the top of each doughnut into your desired glaze.

    • ENJOY!

i grew up making just plain powdered donuts and donut holes, as soon as you take them out of the oil have a bowl of powdered sugar ready put just out the oil donuts or holes in cover with a lid and shake.

My parents used to make these we I was a child, they are fantastic. We always dusted them with powdered sugar instead of the cinnamon sugar. I might have to make them now for my little one.

I grew up eating these and made them for my son when he was younger. We always made chocolate for dipping but never used butter or milk, just water. I may just have to make them again..

We like to make homemade maple bars using the buttery flavored can dough then make the maple icing to dip the bars in.

I am very surprised that anyone wouldn’t have had these. As a child, from a one parent household (five children) these were the only doughnuts we ever had! I haven’t thought about them in years but it’s so good to have that memory. We would grab them as soon as she would let us, so good while warm and fresh! Oh, Ballard biscuits were $.25 a can!
PS: No cutter needed, she used her fingers and poked a hole in them!
